Gaudí sites in winter

Every Gaudí site in Barcelona stays open through the winter, but the hours shrink, a few close for a week in January, and the light goes early. Plan around those three things and the season is a pleasure.

Winter is a good time for Gaudí. Cool days suit walking between the sites, the low sun warms the tiles and stone, and the indoor houses carry you through a rainy day. The catch is the timetable: most sites run shorter winter hours, and each one has its own Christmas and January closures.

Below: winter hours at each site, the holiday closures, Park Güell and the Sagrada Família in the cold months, the best picks for rain, and the free and cheaper visits. For Casa Vicens in detail, read our Casa Vicens hours post.

The quick answer

Casa Vicens opens 9:00 to 18:00 daily, the Sagrada Família 9:00 to 18:00 (Sundays from 10:30), La Pedrera 9:00 to 18:30 and Casa Batlló 9:00 to 22:30. Park Güell sells visitor slots from 9:30 to 19:30. Palau Güell and Bellesguard close on Mondays. Casa Vicens closes 7 to 14 January 2027 and La Pedrera 11 to 17 January 2027. Book the Sagrada Família about two months ahead, even in winter.

Are the Gaudí sites open in winter?

Yes, all of them, every month. Most switch to shorter winter hours from November, and two close on Mondays.

The houses keep long days. Casa Batlló runs from 9:00 to 22:30 with its night visits, and La Pedrera's winter timetable, from 2 November 2026 to 25 February 2027, runs 9:00 to 18:30 with night sessions from 19:00 to 23:00. Casa Vicens and the Sagrada Família both close at 18:00. The smaller sites keep short hours: Bellesguard closes at 15:00.

Which Gaudí sites close over Christmas and New Year?

Casa Vicens and La Pedrera close on 25 December and for a week in January. The Sagrada Família opens mornings only on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 6 January.

The January closures are the ones that catch people out. Casa Vicens shuts from 7 to 14 January 2027 and La Pedrera from 11 to 17 January 2027, so between 11 and 14 January both are closed at once. Casa Batlló, open every day, is the house to book that week.

La Pedrera goes the other way at Christmas: from 26 December to 3 January it stays open until 20:30, and on 1 January it opens at 11:00. The Sagrada Família also holds a Christmas concert on 23 December at 7 pm, one of the last Gaudí Year events.

Is Park Güell worth visiting in winter?

Yes, on a dry day and in good light. Pick a morning or midday slot, since the whole park is outdoors and the sun sets around 17:30 in December.

The ticket covers all 12 hectares, and you can stay as long as you like once inside. Adults pay €18 and ages 7 to 12 and over-65s €13.50. Entry is capped at 1,400 visitors an hour, and you must enter within 30 minutes of your slot. The Bus Güell shuttle from Alfons X (L4) is included in the ticket, which saves the climb on a cold day.

Official tickets sell up to three months ahead and cannot be cancelled, which makes a winter forecast a gamble. The Park Güell guided tour cancels free up to 24 hours before and adds a guide with headsets, from $28, rated 4.7 from 23,263 reviews. Patricia, on the Complete Gaudí tour, kept going in the wet: "We managed to see everything despite the rain that came on while we were in Parc Guell."

How far ahead should you book the Sagrada Família in winter?

About two months ahead, as in summer. Tickets are online only, timed and nominative, and late arrivals are refused.

Winter does not change the booking rules. On-site QR codes let you buy direct only when there is room, so do not count on them. The first hour, 9:00 to 10:00, is a quiet hour with earphones required. Claire, on the audio guide ticket, said it plainly: "I recommend the first session in the morning due to the crowds that accumulate."

The light is the winter bonus. The east windows on the Nativity side are designed for morning light in cool blues, and the west windows on the Passion side for evening light in reds and oranges, which the low winter sun reaches well before the 18:00 closing. Towers can close in bad weather, and tower tickets are not refunded if they do. The new Tower of Jesus Christ is not open to climb yet.

Which Gaudí sites are best on a rainy day?

Casa Batlló and Palau Güell are mostly indoors. La Pedrera closes its rooftop in rain, and Park Güell is the one to move to a dry day.

Casa Vicens is mostly indoors too, with the dining room, the smoking room, the painted bedrooms and the attic exhibition, and umbrellas go in the lockers. Its garden and rooftop are open to the sky, so a rainy-day visit trades some of the outdoor part for quiet rooms. La Pedrera states that the rooftop closes in the event of rain, for safety.

Are there free or cheaper Gaudí visits in winter?

Yes. The Sagrada Família's International Mass on Sundays at 9 am is free, Palau Güell is free on the first Sunday of each month with registration, and under-11s go free at Casa Vicens.

The Sunday Mass enters through the Nativity façade on Carrer de la Marina, with limited space. Palau Güell's free open days need advance registration, which opens the Thursday before at 10:00, and they cover mornings only. Casa Batlló's Night Visit starts at €25 without the rooftop, with first access at 20:30.

On a budget, the Gaudí houses walking tour covers Casa Calvet, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà from outside in 2 hours, from $14, with entry tickets not included. It pairs well with one house visit inside. Every price is in our Gaudí sites prices guide.
